Why We Built an Analog Training Environment in a Digital World

Perform24 members training with printed workout programs and clipboards during a semi-private strength training session in Tampa, Florida.

Every member at Perform24 follows a personalized training program and records their progress by hand. No workout app required. Many of our programs and clipboards end up on the boxes during training sessions.

Walk into a modern fitness facility today and it would be common to see:

TV Screens on in the background. Sometimes with today’s workout displayed.
Maybe even iPads mounted on the power racks.
Tracking motion. Analyzing movement. Real-time data.

Mirrors.
Lots of mirrors.
People looking at themselves in the mirrors.
People taking mirror selfies.

People staring at their phones between sets.

Workout apps, smart watches, notifications, and cameras documenting every exercise.

It’s 2026 after all.

None of those things are inherently bad. Technology can be incredibly useful. We use video analysis, body composition testing, a scheduling App, and other tools with our members every day.

But when we built our new Perform24 facility in 2024, we made a conscious decision:

We didn't want to create a content studio. Or an exercise lab.

We wanted to create a training environment.

That's why you'll notice a few things missing when you walk through our doors.

No mirrors.

No workout apps.

No expectation that you carry your phone around the training floor.

Most of our members track their workouts using a printed program and a pen.

To some people, that sounds old-fashioned, out dated.
Certainly un-optimized.

But to our members, it's become one of the most valuable parts of the experience.

The Most Valuable Hour of Your Day

Many of our members are business owners, professionals, and parents.
High performers. Go-getters.

Their days are filled with meetings, emails, text messages, deadlines, responsibilities, and constant demands for attention.

From the moment they wake up until the moment they go to sleep, something is competing for their focus.

We want their training to be different.

For one hour, we want people focused on one thing: improving themselves.

Not responding to emails.

Not checking notifications.

Not scrolling social media.

Not comparing themselves to anyone else.

Just focused work.

In a world filled with distractions, uninterrupted attention has become increasingly rare.

We believe that's one of the reasons training feels so valuable.

Why We Don't Have Mirrors

One of the most common questions we receive is:

"Why don't you have mirrors?"

Most people assume mirrors help improve movement quality.

Sometimes they can.

But they can also encourage people to constantly rely on visual feedback rather than learning how movement actually feels.

When you're squatting, lunging, carrying, or pressing, we want you developing awareness of your posture, balance, stability, and movement patterns.

We want you paying attention to your body—not your reflection.

In some cases, mirrors can actually encourage poor positioning.

If you're constantly turning your head to check your squat depth or watch your deadlift, you're no longer moving naturally. We regularly coach head and spinal position, and the safest position isn't always the one that gives you the best view in a mirror.

When movement feedback is needed, we use video analysis. Video gives us an objective snapshot of what's happening without creating the athlete to monitor themselves. The athlete can focus on the proper movement.

The goal isn't to eliminate feedback.

The goal is to improve awareness.

Why Most Members Leave Their Phones in a Locker

We don't have a no-phone policy.

We don't need one.

Most members naturally leave their phones in a locker after a few sessions.

Why?

Because they quickly realize how much better training feels when the outside world can't interrupt them.

One notification turns into three.

One text message turns into an email.

One email turns into five minutes of mental distraction.

Before long, the workout becomes another multitasking session.

Training is one of the few opportunities during the day where you can be fully present.

Our members value that.

In many cases, the mental reset is every bit as important as the physical benefits.

Why We Still Use Paper Programs

In a world obsessed with apps, dashboards, and wearable technology, we still hand our members a printed training program on a clipboard.

And they love it.

Every session is recorded by hand.

Weights.

Repetitions.

Personal records.

Progress.

Notes.
Adjustments.

There is something powerful about physically documenting your work.

At the end of a training cycle, our members can flip back through weeks of completed sessions and see exactly what they accomplished.

The record is tangible.

The progress is visible.

And the process feels intentional.

In an increasingly digital world, there is something satisfying about finishing a training cycle and holding the work in your hands.

Every weight recorded. Every session completed. Every personal record earned.

It's a physical reminder that progress is built one workout at a time.

Technology can help us collect information.

But information alone doesn't create commitment.

Engagement does.

Training Is More Than Exercise

At Perform24, we're not trying to create the flashiest gym in Tampa.

We're trying to create the best environment for meaningful progress.

That means reducing distractions.

That means protecting focus.

That means helping people direct their attention toward something productive for one hour every day.

The result isn't just better workouts.

It's a better training experience.

An hour where you can disconnect from the noise, focus on the work in front of you, and leave stronger than when you arrived. One hour of intentional training to help prepare you to perform your best in the other 23. (…Perform24)

In a world that constantly demands your attention, that might be one of the most valuable things a gym can offer.

Train Hard. Live Full.
